it chooses you

"This sometimes happens when I am faced with actualities - it's like deja vu, but instead of the sensation that this has happened before, I'm suffused with the awareness that this is happening for the first time."

“I’ve been trying for so long now, for decades, to lift the lid a little bit, to see under the edge of life and somehow catch it in the act—‘it’ being not God (because the word God asks a question and then answers it before there is any chance to wonder) but something along those lines.”

It Chooses You by Miranda July

I recently revisited an old favorite book, and found it just as moving the second time around (which for me at least is a rare thing)

a certain sweetness

    "there isn't enough of anything
as long as we live. But at intervals
a sweetness appears and, given a chance
    prevails.”

-- Raymond Carver

I took these photos a little while back on a trip to New York,
where I think there was a certain sweetness.
