moving along

me being obsessed with myself in Israel
Hat die Wohnung einen Balkon? Does the apartment have a balcony? Das Dach. The roof. Das sind Schl├╝ssel. These are keys.

I am trying to learn German through an app on my phone. I keep a list of my favorite words so far & they reveal a pattern-- the kissed sound of ‘sch’: schmutzig, Schmuck, Schl├╝ssel. Though the app teaches me unusual phrases (“these are keys”), I still cannot count to ten. When I have travelled briefly to a country, I try to pick up on things like simple numbers as quickly as possible. However, in less than two months, I will be living in a country where German is the spoken language. Learning how to count to ten will become just as useful as the descriptors of an apartment. The equal value of all words (versus weight given to ‘survival phrases’) is a both strange and freeing concept. I give up on the app, watch Orange Is The New Black with German subtitles instead. I learn the word for ‘cherry pie’ and it goes on the list. Kirschkuchen.

dreaming of you

Airports are about as close as you can get to true destinationlessness: each person existing on a different time zone, headed in opposing directions, isolation.

landan

Recently, I went to London to tour some universities. I saw a fabulous Betty Woodman exhibit at the ICA (only a pound to get in!). It was really odd and empty, though. Just me and the vases and a quiet couple sitting in the corner.

rej?!

1: I saw Rejjie Snow with some friends the other day as part of the Young Hustle tour. He was so good and his set was so creative and also I was like three feet away from him. We saw him eating falafel in the restaurant as we were leaving. Ugh.

2 & 3: details

snow?

there is something distinct about the sun setting after a snow storm. I was sitting with my friend who works in an ice cream store as the blizzard keeled and the sun set. People, even employees, ran out of the buildings to take pictures of the sunset.

also, have you heard this album?
